Curvy Oak Bucksaw with Canvas Carry Case and Leather Blade Guard
The ‘bucksaw’ is a collapsible frame saw made from wood, designed to be easily carried in a rucksack or pack basket, significantly increasing your wood sawing capabilities in camp. It’s a practical utility tool but I see no reason why it shouldn’t look a bit fancy too! I’ve based my curvy design on the traditional carpenter’s frame saw, combining lightness and strength with elegance.
All the wooden parts are made from English Oak, with hand carved chamfers and hand cut mortise & tenon joints. As it’s a take down saw, the joints are intentionally ‘loose’ to allow for any swelling during the damper months of the year. Additionally, all wooden parts have been finished with Danish Oil to help protect the wood and there’s a choice of finishes too, natural wood or distressed paint (choose your colour).
The blade supplied is a 24” Bahco with raker teeth, mainly for green wood but will happily cut seasoned firewood too. The securing bolts have wingnuts for easy removal and the windlass cord supplied is a 3mm synthetic hemp - strong, rotproof but looks ‘woodsy’.
The carry case is 15oz heavy duty, water resistant canvas with leather and brass fittings. There’s an external sleeve for an axe, the head being secured by the fold over flap of the carry case (Axe not included!).
The leather blade guard is designed to protect the blade in transit as well as once the saw is assembled and in use around camp. It’s made from veg tan leather with a soft rubber welt, designed to grip the blade and protect the stitching. This comes with a cotton drawstring bag to keep it safe and organised within the main carry case. I keep a spare blade in mine!.
My curvy bucksaws are specialist tools, hand made to order - please email to enquire about my current lead time before ordering.
